2025 Job Market Predictions

Feb 27, 2025

LinkedIn recently released its annual Jobs on the Rise list which details the 25 job titles that are fastest growing based on those with the largest increase on its platform between January 2022 and July 2024. While this list is a backwards look and there is much to be written about the global economy and political landscape for the coming year, it’s an interesting glimpse into the trends that shape hiring and job growth.

The report highlights jobs that aren’t surprising to see, like artificial intelligence (AI) consultants and engineers. However, there are others on the list with a much more old-school, human touch such as physical therapists, event planners, and security guards.

According to CNBC’s analysis of this report, the jobs on LinkedIn’s list “reflect two dominant trends shaping the labor market: the growing adoption of AI technologies and a resurgence in demand for in-person service and experiences like concerts and travel.”

What else is shaping job trends?

  • Need for digital and technological skills. The demand for workers with skills in computing, coding and technology isn’t going anywhere, soon. AI in particular is shaping the kinds of roles available and skill sets employers are seeking in ideal candidates, particularly in industries such as finance, healthcare and manufacturing.
  • Remote and hybrid work. In our post-pandemic landscape, many companies are still attempting to figure out their policies on remote working. According to a Forbes article, most companies are considering more personalized return to office policies as opposed to mandates, and there are more hybrid roles posted that include a mix of work settings.
  • The gig economy and freelance work. Workers are continuing to desire more flexibility and control in their work lives, leading to companies offering increasingly flexible roles, particularly in areas such as writing, digital development, design and project management.
  • As big data booms and drives virtually all decision-making in business, the need for roles like cybersecurity engineers, compliance professionals and data privacy experts continues to rise.
  • Human-centeredness. Sure, machines and AI can streamline the more repetitive tasks, but on the opposite end, there is also an increased need for people in roles that require human and emotional intelligence. Think of coaching, human resources, sales and leadership, especially in healthcare and education.
  • Sustainability and ‘green’ work. As the world focuses on the environmental impacts of business, the report spotlights roles such as corporate social responsibility and environmental policy, most often found in industries like business consulting, technology, architecture and planning.
  • Evolving healthcare needs. Boomers are aging, and along with that, their healthcare needs continue to be a driver, along with an increased focus on mental health. This results in more roles for home health aides, mental health professionals, advanced practice professionals and telehealth providers.

As you think about the expanding opportunities in these areas and the trends shaping them, consider, too, how you can continue to keep your skill set fresh. Even if you’re not looking to change roles or move toward one of the jobs on the list, companies will continue to seek employees who are adapting to an ever-changing landscape in a rapidly evolving world. Consider getting certifications or credentials in some of these expanding areas to make you an exceptional and well-rounded candidate in whatever role you seek.
