YOU Could Save Lives as a Contact Tracer

Jul 24, 2020

Are you interested in the medical field? Do you have experience counseling people through a crisis? The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is looking for you to join their team of contact tracers!

A contact tracer is a public health professional who identifies and contacts individuals who may have come into contact with someone who has an infectious disease. In our current pandemic, contact tracers are working with people who have been exposed to COVID-19 (coronavirus) through someone else. We are currently looking for people who are interested in this position to fill thousands of open positions with the VDH.

This job is similar to being an investigator, gathering details about each contact an ill individual has made prior to their diagnosis. They collect and report data, but it is not all numbers and statistics! Contact tracers also provide education about the disease itself and the importance of quarantine to prevent further transmission to others. Not all individuals who have been in contact with an ill person will contract the disease themselves, but caution is necessary until a test confirms whether or not they have.

While the contact tracer position doesn’t require years of experience,  the best candidates have basic crisis counseling skills and an understanding of medical terms and principles as well as medical terminology. It’s also critical that all contact tracers understand patient confidentiality and are trustworthy with such sensitive information.

Training is provided through the local VDH office. This remote position will occasionally require trips to the local VDH office, so it’s not completely virtual. However, most of the work can be done from home.

Do you think you’d be a good fit as a contact tracer? We want to hear from you! Please send your resume to recruiters@eeihr.com and let them know that you heard about the position on this blog. We look forward to discussing the position with you!
